Forecast: Chance of showers on Long Island drops to 20 percent

The chance of showers Thursday on Long Island has lessened to 20 percent, with the possibility of thunderstorms now "not in the picture," a National Weather Service forecaster said.

That was based on radar and computer model guidance, which indicate the bands of showers are expected to have more of an impact on northern New England, said Tim Morrin, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.

There were no reports of minor coastal flooding at times of high tide Thursday morning along the southern shores of Nassau County and western Suffolk.

A coastal flood statement, issued by the National Weather Service, expired at 1 p.m.

Temperatures Thursday are expected to be around 80, with humid conditions, said Nancy Furbush, also a meteorologist in Upton.

Friday is expected to be sunny with highs in the mid 70s, she said.
