More flurries, light snow expected on Long Island

Long Islanders can expect intermittent flurries or light snow Tuesday afternoon through midnight, said David Wally, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

With "a very weak system" passing to the south, accumulation in addition to Monday's overnight coating could possibly amount to up to half an inch in some spots, he said.

Expect "on-again-off-again" flurries or light snow to start by midafternoon Tuesday, he said, making roadways during the evening commute "a little slick in spots."

Meteorologists are also keeping their eyes on a low pressure system forecast to arrive Friday, which brings "a good chance" for "significant precipitation," he said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, "it's a real close call" as to whether that will be rain, snow or a mix, Wally said.
