Breezy, dry conditions could enhance the spread of brushfires Wednesday on Long Island, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement.

The Upton-based service issued the statement -- its second in two days -- shortly before 10 a.m. for Nassau and Suffolk counties.

North winds at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts to 25 mph, and decreasing relative humidity are partially responsible for the statement, the service said.

Also, a dry Canadian air mass moves across the region.

Should there be ignition, the combination of weather conditions, along with a dry landscape, will cause "an enhanced spread of brushfires" on Wednesday, the special weather statement said.
