Patchy fog may reduce visibility on LI
As a result of patchy fog on Long Island Tuesday afternoon, drivers, especially those in coastal areas, should be alert for reduced visibilities of a quarter of a mile or less, the National Weather Service said.
For the most part visibility is 3 miles or more, but conditions could change rapidly, especially near bodies of water, the service said in a special weather statement.
Drivers should reduce speed and turn on low beams when encountering dense fog, the service said.
The fog was causing some delays on arrivals at Kennedy Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Those delays were averaging nearly a half-hour.
