A flood advisory for parts of the South Shore has expired, but there's still a chance for showers and thunderstorms on Long Island into Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Any showers that do hit should move out in the 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. range, weather service meteorologist Carlie Buccola said.

And, as a cold front passes by, the humidity decreases, she said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said any scattered showers and storms could generate flooding.

Hoffman called the humidity "oppressive" but said relief is in sight; the incoming cold front will improve conditions Thursday, pushing out the heavy, humid air.

"Dew points will drop into the 50s Thursday morning, and it will feel so much better with the less humid air," he said.

Overnight lows in the mid 60s will give way to a partly sunny to mostly sunny Thursday with daily highs in the low to mid 80s.
