Drivers in Suffolk County should be aware of patchy ice spots during the morning commute Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement.

Tuesday's rainfall combined with snow melt has led to "some areas of standing water," the weather service said in the statement. "With temperatures below freezing in some areas . . . these areas of water have become frozen especially in any areas where winds are lighter and roads are not treated."

The weather service urged drivers to "exercise extra caution and drive carefully and slowly when encountering these conditions."
