Long Island weather forecast for Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015.

Pope Francis, when he arrives Thursday at Kennedy Airport, can expect "heavenly weather" for his first hours in New York -- and beyond, said Rich Hoffmann, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

With arrival time around 5 p.m., conditions then and leading up to a 6:50 p.m. sunset are expected to include mostly sunny skies, with temperatures of 73 to 78 degrees, he said.

Friday is expected to deliver sun with clouds, slight breezes and temperatures of 70 to 75 degrees in New York City, as the Pope visits the United Nations, the 9/11 memorial and a school in East Harlem.

Conditions on Long Island are looking to be similar, with highs in the low 70s Friday and continuing into the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
