Sunday's possible afternoon rain showers will give way to spring weather for much of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday will see partly to mostly cloudy skies, with a chance of showers beginning in the afternoon, said David Stark, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau. Thunder is also possible, but the rain should clear up by the evening, he said.

Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-60s, with lows in the mid-40s.

Monday through Wednesday will be dry, with highs in the mid-60s. Lows on Monday and Tuesday will be in the mid-40s, while Wednesday night's lows will be in the upper 40s.

"We're seeing more typical May conditions over the next several days," Stark said.

A few showers are expected on Thursday, with highs in the mid-60s and lows in the 50s.

Friday will see a continued chance of showers, with highs in the low 60s. But for now, next weekend is forecast to be pleasant -- temperatures on Saturday are expected to be near 70.
