Get ready for a change - a change in the weather that is expected to put a damper on things for the next few days.

After pleasant temperatures in the mid to upper 60s and sunny skies across Long Island on Saturday - continuing a pattern that has held for several days - forecasters are calling for rain the next few days

"It's going to be of pretty long duration. It looks like we have a pretty good shot of rain through Monday," said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton

Ciemnecki added the Island could get up to an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain from a slow-moving low pressure system out of the Ohio Valley.

Temperatures today are expected to fall to the low to mid 50s. "Normally, we should be right around 61," Ciemnecki said, "so we're going to be below normal, both Sunday and Monday."

Rain was heavy at times early Sunday morning as it remains overcast.

The good news is that the rain is expected to slacken off by Monday night. "Even though we keep rain in the forecast until Tuesday, the chances become much less," Ciemnecki said. "Your best shot of rain looks to be Sunday through Monday."

Toward the end of the week, however, temperatures should rise once again, meteorologist Richard Castro said.
