First comes the rain, then the wind.

Rainfall will begin Thursday night and is expected to intensify after 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Patchy fog is expected to roll in around 3 a.m. Friday and hang around before noon as the temperature rises through the 40s.

The rain continues on Friday, with thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall possibly after 9 a.m., forecasters said. More than an inch of rain could fall on parts of Long Island.

A high wind watch is in effect Friday morning through the evening, with southwest winds blowing 15 to 30 mph and potential gusts of 55 to 60 mph. Winds will shift to the northwest in the evening with similar gusts, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service warned that the gusts could "bring trees and power lines down."

Friday night, the rain will clear out but winds will remain gusty, forecasters said. Saturday promises to be cloudy with a high near 36, and the winds will die down, according to the weather service.
