Rain spawns flight delays, power outages

Some flight arrivals were still delayed and some Long Islanders remained without electricity Wednesday evening after rain flooded roads, downed trees and caused scattered power outages.
As of 11 p.m., the Long Island Power Authority was reporting a slight uptick in outages and 284 customers without power. The hardest-hit areas were Levittown and Inwood.
At area airports, delays in arrivals and departures were down to 15 minutes or less, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Earlier, at 7 p.m., delays averaged an hour and 20 minutes at LaGuardia Airport and 51 minutes at Newark Liberty.
New rainfall amounts since Tuesday of 3.12 inches in Wantagh, 2.91 inches in Bay Shore and 2.28 inches in Islip were reported by the National Weather Service.
The service was also forecasting areas of drizzle and fog before midnight, with areas of fog Thursday morning, followed by partly sunny skies and high temperatures near 75 degrees.
