Rain wets Long Island after dry spell; temps to reach mid 70s Saturday

Long Island, which has been going through an unusually dry period, is getting a dose of rain Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
Light showers moved through Suffolk and Nassau counties early Saturday, said Weather Service meteorologist Faye Barthold.
But more showers are expected Saturday evening and overnight, with thunderstorms possible, she said.
Since the beginning of May, Islip has recorded .02 inches of rain. The normal for that stretch of time is 1.5 inches, Barthold said.
"We really need this rain," she said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Samantha Augeri said that while heavy downpours could bring as much as a half inch of rain Saturday night, significantly more is needed.
"We get a nice little watering today, but we would need another soaking rain to catch up," she said.
Temperatures on Saturday are expected to reach the mid 70s Islandwide and drop to the low 60s overnight.
Sunday looks clear and dry, Barthold said, with temperatures in the upper 70s for most of the Island and the low to mid 70s on Suffolk's East End.
