Chances of showers all day Friday will not dampen Long Islanders' three-day Memorial Day weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A 30% chance of showers, most likely from 2 to 8 p.m., will linger across the island Friday, according to the weather service. Temperatures will reach the lower 60s.

While Thursday's rainfall was more "widespread" across the island, Friday calls for more isolated showers, according to meteorologist Bryan Ramsey with the weather service's Upton office.

As of around 7 p.m. Thursday, Nassau County received around ¾ inch to 1 inch of rain, while around 1 to 2 inches fell in Suffolk County, according to Ramsey. Less rain is forecast to splash down Thursday.

While the coastal flood advisory across parts of Nassau and Suffolk expired Thursday, Long Islanders should exercise caution if they are considering surfing or swimming ahead of the weekend. The weather service posted a high rip current risk alert on its website Thursday for southern Nassau County areas as well as southwest Suffolk from 6 a.m. Friday through Friday evening. Ramsey advised Long Islanders to check for rip current risk alerts throughout the three-day weekend before going for a swim.

The weather service forecast calls for mostly sunny skies Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Memorial Day, with high temperatures growing increasingly warmer throughout the three-day weekend. Saturday calls for highs in the mid-60s, followed by temperatures in the upper 60s on Sunday.

Monday will be the best day of the weekend, especially for outdoor events, Ramsey said.

"We're talking highs in the low 70s, we're got mostly sunny skies, that's going to be the day," Ramsey said of Monday. "The winds are light. Monday is going to be a fantastic day."
