A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of western Suffolk and northeastern Nassau Counties through 5:30 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
Just before 5 p.m., radar was tracking the thunderstorm over Brookville and Westbury, moving southeast at 45 mph.
It included winds in excess of 30 mph and pea-size hail.
The service had issued a severe thunderstorm watch for western Suffolk and Nassau County until 4 p.m. and has been tracking storms. Hail had been reported in Lindenhurst and Melville.
The stormy weather comes as the state is under an air quality alert for wildfire smoke coming down from Canada.
