A small craft advisory is in effect for Long Island's South Shore waters until noon Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in its marine forecast.

Wave heights from 6 to 9 feet are expected with a southeast swell as "high seas from Hurricane Joaquin are slow to subside," the service's Upton office said.

The advisory covers Moriches Inlet to Montauk Point, Fire Island Inlet to Moriches Inlet and Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to Fire Island Inlet and out 20 nautical miles from each area, the service said.
