Snow doesn't amount to much on Long Island

By midafternoon Wednesday, light snow had pretty much cleared Long Island, with just a few straggling showers and flurries in parts of Suffolk County, forecasters said.

In all, up to an inch of snow fell in parts of Nassau and just over an inch in western Suffolk, said Joe Pollina, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.

His office recorded 0.6 of an inch, he said.

Indeed, the weather service said earlier in a special statement that there could be some stronger snow bands.

An incoming cold front to be followed by high pressure Wednesday night helped to create the potential for snow, the service said.

Another front could bring in a second flurry of light snow Thursday morning, from about 9 a.m. till noon, the service said. But the chance for snow is significantly lower, about 20 percent.
