Snowfall could reach 3 inches on eastern LI

Parts of Suffolk County, east of the William Floyd Parkway, could receive up to 3 inches of snow on Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service.

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for eastern Suffolk County, which is expected to receive the brunt of the overnight storm, said Mike Layer, a weather service meteorologist based in Upton. Nassau County, meanwhile, is in line for half an inch of snow.

Flurries are expected to fall across Long Island on Saturday afternoon with temperatures in the mid-to-high 30s. The temperature will drop into the 20s overnight, when the higher accumulations of snow are expected to begin, Layer said.

Snow will taper off by dawn, he said, but temperatures will remain below freezing on Sunday.

With temperatures in the upper 20s, Long Islanders should brace for wind gusts on Sunday of up to 40 miles per hour, Layer said.
