The scorecard from the storm that swept Long Island on Saturday included flooded streets, delayed flights and thousands without power -- but no fatalities or severe property damage, officials said.
While the cold front caused dozens of deaths in the South and soaked parts of New Jersey with 4 inches of rain, the National Weather Service reported that water never topped 2 inches in Nassau or Suffolk counties.
"Actually, we were very lucky," Long Beach City Manager Charles Theofan said.
He acknowledged some flooding, including areas where the city recently spent $1.6 million to build taller sea walls. But aside from construction debris that was blown onto some residents' properties, he said there were no serious problems.
Nearby Lido Beach had the highest rainfall in Nassau reported to the Weather Service: 1.65 inches. Just east, Point Lookout recorded the county's highest wind gusts: 47 mph.
In Suffolk, the Coast Guard on Fire Island logged 56 mph wind gusts while Middle Island received the most rain: 1.89 inches.
Nearly 1,200 Long Island Power Authority customers lost electricity, the majority on Nassau's North Shore. By 2 p.m., 338 customers had no electricity.
Damage on Long Island consisted of downed trees and road flooding from Riverhead to Freeport.
High temperatures Monday are forecast to be in the mid- to upper-50s, according to National Weather Service officials in Upton, with a chance of showers Monday night and lows in the mid- to upper-40s. Tuesday's highs are forecast to be in the upper 40s to lower 50s, with lows in the lower 40s. There will be a chance of evening showers.
