A strong thunderstorm moved through eastern Nassau and Suffolk counties Tuesday evening, dropping heavy rain and bringing winds as high as 40 mph, the National Weather Service said.
Radar tracked the storm shortly after 7 p.m. as it moved near Melville and Plainview and headed southeast at 30 mph, toward Deer Park and Babylon.
Earlier, a cell hit the North Fork when Suffolk County was under a severe thunderstorm warning that expired at 6:45 p.m., meteorologist Joe Pollina said.
