Summer's final Saturday brings warmer temps, with cooling in next week's forecast

Long Islanders should be able to enjoy street fairs, barbecues and even Subway Series baseball as the forecast for the final weekend of the summer brings largely dry skies and warm temperatures.

Saturday's forecast calls for highs of about 80, about 5 degrees warmer than normal for mid-September, said Faye Barthold, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service's office in Upton.

But a cold front coming into the area Saturday night brings a chance of spotty showers, with temperatures dropping into the mid 60s overnight, Barthold said.

Sunday should bring more seasonal temperatures with a high of the mid 70s across Long Island, she said. Sunday night will get significantly cooler, with temperatures in the mid 50s in most areas and in the upper 40s in the pine barrens.

Monday's back-to-work forecast calls for continuing cooler temperatures in the mid 70s, Barthold said.
