Look for a sunny Sunday morning with brisk winds before clouds develop by the afternoon when the high temperature is expected to reach about 60 degrees, according to meteorologists.

There’s also a chance for record cold Sunday night.

West winds will be 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, according to Bill Goodman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Upton office.

“I’d say it’s going to be on the cool side and brisk,” Goodman said. “The rest of the week will be around seasonable.” He said the normal high at Islip is 67 and the low is 49.

Goodman said the wind comes from two pressure systems.

“Through Monday there’s high pressure building to the south and there’s a storm to the north in Canada — when there are two pressure systems we get this wind.”

News 12 meteorologist Norm Dvoskin said Roslyn and Merrick will both reach 64; the highs in Holtsville and Kings Park will be 62; and in Manorville, Southold and East Hampton it will be 61, 60 and 59, respectively.

There is a slight chance for brief afternoon showers, and for boaters a small craft advisory is in effect for Sunday and a gale warning starts at 6 p.m. for the ocean.

Record cold and continued windy conditions may be ahead at night when lows will be only about 39 degrees. The record low set in 1999 was 40.

Monday will be sunny with more winds out of the west at 15 to 25 miles mph. Highs are predicted to be about 64 degrees.

Tuesday it will be partly sunny with highs near 63, but clouds will increase and there is a slight chance of rain showers with lows around 50 degrees.

The sun makes a comeback Wednesday when the day starts off with periods of rain that taper off in the afternoon. Highs are forecast near 64 degrees and lows will be around 49.

Thursday’s highs will be near 68 with mostly sunny skies and the low will warm up a bit to near 51.

Friday brings a mix of sun and clouds with highs near 72 and lows near 54.
