Sunday's rain expected to give way to muggy, summery week

It'll be muggy and humid for the start of the week on Long Island, with a thunderstorm expected midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday morning's light rain will segue into a drier but still cloudy afternoon, said David Stark, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau. Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-70s.

The clouds will begin clearing Sunday night, with lows in the low to mid-60s.

Monday will be brighter and sunnier, Stark said, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. "Much closer to a summer feel," he said, adding that it'll continue to feel muggy and humid.

Lows on Monday will be in the mid- to upper 60s.

Another sunny day is expected on Tuesday, with highs in the low 80s and lows in the 60s, with continued mugginess.

A chance of a shower or thunderstorm comes to the area on Wednesday, courtesy of a cold front that will begin to move through, Stark said. Highs will be in the low 80s, and the humidity will increase, he said.

Lows on Wednesday will be in the low to mid-60s.

The cold front should clear the area by Thursday morning, bringing with it a relief from the humidity, he said. Highs on Thursday and Friday will be in the low 80s, with dry, mostly sunny skies both days.
