There’ll be lots of sun on Long Island on Sunday, with only light breezes after Saturday’s brisk winds, forecasters said.

But it will be chilly with highs reaching only around 44 degrees and there could be a wintry mix of snow and rain on Monday.

The normal high on Sunday for Islip is 47, but according to News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery, Coram, Southampton, Lindenhurst and Westbury will see highs of 43, 44, 45 and 45, respectively.

“It’ll be a pretty nice Sunday,” Avery said, but when Monday comes, “then it gets interesting.”

Clouds will increase Sunday night along with the chance for rain and snow showers late overnight when the lows will drop to around 32 degrees.

Avery predicted snow and rain showers will remain over Long Island affecting the morning commute on Monday and then the mix is expected to transform to just rain showers lasting until around noontime.

“We’re not expecting any accumulation but there may be some slippery spots,” said Tim Morrin, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Upton.

Morrin added that by this time of year there have usually been several snowfalls.

Some sunshine will eventually break through the clouds Monday and highs will be near 47 and the low will drop to 34.

Tuesday will be a mix of sun and clouds with late-day showers and highs near 46. Lows near 38 are forecast.

On Wednesday look for mostly cloudy skies with a few light showers. Highs near 48 and lows near 38 are forecast.

A few more sprinkles return for Thursday when highs will be near 49 and lows near 33.

Another mix of sun and clouds comes on Friday when a cold start for the weekend is expected with highs climbing to only 40 and lows near 38.
