Temperatures should start rising Friday

Another Long Island weather record was set Thursday for a particularly nasty January.
When the temperature reached 9 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma at 7:54 a.m., a daily record low was set, surpassing the 10 degrees recorded in 2000, the National Weather Service said.
But there's good news: Temperatures are expected to climb into more normal ranges Friday.
The high of 26 in Islip Thursday afternoon was 3 degrees above the minimum daily average, the weather service's Upton office said.
"It is starting to warm up," said Tim Morrin, a meteorologist with the service.
Daily highs Friday are expected to range from the high 30s to low 40s.
Throughout the weekend the warming trend continues, with highs Saturday in the low 40s. On Sunday, the high temperature will climb to 48 or 49 degrees, the weather service said.---- Gary Dymski, Candice Ruud
