Temps in 70s, rain possible for Long Island's final weekend of summer

The final weekend of summer will be in the 70s and with a chance of rain.

Temperatures on Saturday will be in the low to mid 70s across Long Island, according to Joe Pollina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.

The Weather Service has also advised visitors to oceanfront beaches in southern Nassau and Suffolk of a moderate risk of rip current because of increasing onshore winds. Pollina said the rip currents could become a higher risk late in the day.

Temperatures will cool overnight into the low to mid 60s with a slight chance of rain, Pollina said.

There is also a chance of rain again on Sunday -- the final full day of summer -- with an isolated chance of thunderstorms and temperatures in the upper 70s, Pollina said.

The autumnal equinox at 10:29 p.m. Monday ushers in fall.
