There's a possibility of record-breaking temperatures on Long Island on Friday.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery said Black Friday shoppers will enjoy downright warm temperatures as they slog through crowded mall parking lots with their discounted treasures.

Avery said it would be "mainly cloudy and even milder with a near-record high of 63."

Temperatures are expected to cool down over the weekend, Avery said, with Saturday dipping to 53 degrees and Sunday coming in even cooler at 49.

The National Weather Service said Friday's overnight temperatures would be in the 40s.

Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the weather service, said temperatures approaching record levels could be reached Friday.

"We're forecasting a high of 63 in Islip and 64 in JFK," he said. "It starts to turn noticeably cooler into Saturday, lower half of the 50s most likely, maybe mid 50s out on the East End."

Engle said tomorrow night it turns noticeably colder.

"We're going to start to see upper 30s to around 40s and then on Sunday we probably don't get out of the 40s, that's a return to normal temperatures by Sunday," he said.

Winds will pick up Saturday, reaching up to 15 mph with a 40 percent chance of rain, the weather service said. The lows are expected to be in the upper 30s.
