Long Island weather: Cool with rain coming later Thursday, continuing Friday
The Long Island weather forecast for Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, through Saturday.
Cool and breezy conditions are in store for Long Island Thursday.
The National Weather Service's Upton office said there's a slight chance of rain after 2 p.m. and that winds will reach 17 mph with gusts as high as 29 mph.
Skies will be cloudy with daily highs in the mid to upper 60s; chance for rain is at 20 percent.
Rain, heavy at times, heads into Long Island overnight and into Friday morning, the service said.
Overnight lows are in the 50s, with winds from the northeast gusting up to 31 mph.
Friday morning, it stays breezy and the chance of precipitation climbs to 80 percent.
New rainfall amounts of between one-half and three-quarters of an inch are possible.
The service said a coastal flood advisory for Long Island is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday.; a coastal flood watch is effective from Friday morning through Friday afternoon.
Also, a high surf advisory is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman also said there's a chance for a few stray showers on Thursday and that conditions will be windy.
Hoffman also calls for periods of heavy rain with cold temperatures on Friday; daily highs are in the mid to upper 50s.
