Thursday brings cooler temps to Long Island

Slightly cooler temperatures and less humid conditions are in store for Long Island on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

Daily highs in the low to mid 80s are expected across Nassau and Suffolk counties with a north wind from 5 to 10 mph shifting southwest during the afternoon, the service's Upton office said.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said mostly sunny skies will give way to a mix of sun and clouds on Thursday.

There's a chance of rain in the weekend forecast, he said, but any heavy precipitation is likely to be well south of Long Island.

Thursday night calls for increasing clouds and overnight lows in the mid 60s.

There's a chance of light rain for most of Friday and again on Saturday, with daily high temperatures both days around 80 degrees.

"A storm will move south of Long Island Friday into Saturday," Hoffman said. "It looks like most of the rain will stay south of Long Island.
