A wind advisory is in effect Thursday, April 2, 2015 for parts of southern Nassau County, the National Weather Service said.

A wind advisory is in effect Thursday afternoon for parts of southern Nassau County, the National Weather Service said.

The service's Upton office said the advisory runs through 8 p.m. and includes portions of southern Queens and Brooklyn.

Sustained southerly winds of about 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph are possible, the service said. At times driving may be difficult, the service said, "especially for high profile vehicles."

For most of Thursday, temperatures were expected to be in the mid 50s for Nassau and Suffolk counties, with partly sunny skies.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Samantha Augeri said temperatures into the nighttime hours won't be as cold, with lows near 46.

Low pressure brings the chance of rain showers through Friday, with thunderstorms possible for Friday night, Augeri said.
