Fire weather watch in effect for Long Island Saturday afternoon, evening

A fire weather watch is in effect for Long Island on Saturday, from noon to 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said.
The service cited sustained winds 15 to 20 mph, with gusts 25 to 35 mph, and relative humidity of 20 to 30 percent as reasons for the watch.
The watch means there could be "rapid fire spread if ignition occurs," the weather service said.
As for Friday, light rain off and on is expected for most of Nassau and Suffolk counties, the National Weather Service's Upton office said.
After dry periods this afternoon, spotty showers return from about 4 p.m. to about 8 p.m., News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.
Daily highs Friday in the mid 60s are expected, with gradual clearing in the afternoon.
The on-again, off-again rain gives way to a dry weekend, with daily highs Saturday near 75 degrees.
Hoffman said Saturday will be mostly sunny, with some late-day clouds.
On Sunday, temperatures cool slightly, with highs in the upper 50s and low 60s, he said.
The weather service said there is "potential for heavy rain, strong southeast winds and minor tidal flooding on Monday as low pressure develops along a strong front that passes south of Long Island."
Rain is forecast to move in between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Monday, "with the heaviest rain from late morning through the afternoon," the weather service said. "Rain is forecast to end by early Tuesday afternoon."
