Long Islanders are enjoying a few more hours of warmer conditions, but rain and a cold front will be moving in later this evening.

Temperatures were in the upper 40s and lower 50s,  but frigid air will return, the National Weather Service said.

However, wind gusts of up to 32 mph are making it feel like temperatures are in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

"Later tonight, a cold front moves through that will help filter in some colder air back into the region,"  Tomasini said.

Temperatures will drop Wednesday night with wind chill values in the upper teens and Thursday's wind chill values will make it feel even colder.

Those venturing outside Thursday night should dress warmly, as the wind will make it feel as if temperatures are in the single digits, Tomasini said.

"Especially at night over the next couple days ... bundle up because those wind chill values will be pretty cold," he said.

Winds will decrease to around 20 to 25 mph Friday, with  highs reaching into the mid 30s.

There is a slight chance of snow Friday night into Saturday morning and then Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the weather service. Highs this weekend will reach into the upper 30s and low 40s while lows will dip into the low 20s and upper teens.
