Warmer temps ahead for LI's weather weary

There are "fairly quiet conditions on tap," for the coming days, weather-wise, said the National Weather Service, as well as temperatures Sunday and Monday expected in the low to mid 60s.

That's likely music to the ears of Long Islanders, many of whom have yet to recover from the disruption and devastation of the area's back-to-back storms.

Saturday's highs are forecast to be just about normal, in the mid- to upper-50s, the weather service said.

But, the forecast for Sunday, as of early Friday, is for 62 to 63 degrees, pretty much Islandwide, said Joey Picca, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

Monday is likely to be slightly warmer, with a chance the far East End would see temperatures in the lower 60s, he said.

There is a possible "fly in the ointment," the weather service said -- the potential for stratus clouds to develop Sunday, but even then temperatures would be shaved by just a couple of degrees, Picca said.

The record high for both Nov. 11 and 12 -- this Sunday and Monday -- is 63 degrees, recorded in 2006, 2002, and 1995, said Dan Hofmann, also a meteorologist in Upton.
