Warmer temps precede colder week on Long Island
Temperatures will moderate Sunday, but rain moves in Monday and the cold returns to Long Island later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Sunday should be mostly cloudy but dry, with temperatures in the upper 40s, said Brian Ciemnecki, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. That's slightly warmer than Saturday.
There's a slight chance of rain starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, with the likelihood increasing until midnight, Ciemnecki said. A steady, moderate rain will fall across Long Island on Monday, with temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.
The weather will turn sharply colder Tuesday, with highs only in the mid-30s, he said. Overnight into Wednesday, temperatures will dip into the lower 20s for most of Long Island and into the teens in some spots.
There will be sunny skies and temperatures expected to be in the upper 30s on Wednesday, Ciemnecki said. Thursday and Friday will see mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the lower to mid 40s, he said.
