Long Island will have clear skies and no rain for the next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid-80s through Friday. Evening temperatures will be refreshingly cool, in the high 60s, forecasters said.

"We have a high-pressure system building in the area," said Matt Wunsch, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. "That’s going to keep conditions fairly quiet," with average temperatures, clear skies and low humidity.

"This high-pressure system is associated with a much drier air mass," Wunsch said. "It makes for a very comfortable feel to the air."

The dew point Sunday morning was in the 50s, which is abnormally dry for August, when dew points in the 70s can make summer days feel oppressively steamy.

The temperature Sunday in Islip was just shy of 83 degrees at about 1 p.m.

Monday is expected to be a little warmer, with a high of about 81 degrees and a low around 69 overnight.

Tuesday will be similar, with a high around 88 degrees. Wednesday the weather service expects a high of 83 degrees, and Thursday and Friday the highs should be around 81.

No rain is expected through next Sunday.

"There’s a little disturbance that might approach the area" by midweek, Wunsch said, but that brings "just a low chance for any pop-up showers."
