Long Island weather: Flip-flop in temperatures featured this week, forecasters say

A flip-flop from seasonable temperatures to summer-like ones and back again is expected in this week's weather, forecasters said.
After Monday's clouds, drizzle and temperatures in the 60's, expect a warm-up to the mid- to upper 70s for Tuesday through Thursday. Indeed, October, as of day's-end Sunday, has been averaging 9.4 degrees above normal at Long Island MacArthur Airport.
Thursday into Friday morning was forecast to bring showers, with high temperatures Friday receding back to the mid-60s, the weather service said.
Some of that precipitation could be associated with remnants of Tropical Storm Michael, just entering the Gulf of Mexico and expected to reach the northeastern Gulf Coast by mid-week. Any impact on Long Island depends on track, timing and speed of the system, said Peter Wichrowski, weather service meteorologist in Upton.
