The sun is expected to back shining in the skies over Long Island on Tuesday but there is a chance rain could return Tuesday night.

After a wet Monday, the National Weather Service on Monday evening was predicting Tuesday would be sunny with a high temperature near 59 degrees, which is 9 degrees higher than the average high for the date in Islip.

Tuesday should also have a west wind blowing at 9 to 15 mph.

Forecasters calculated that Tuesday night into Wednesday morning there is a 30% chance of rain after 1 a.m. and the thermometer will dip down to about 36 degrees.

Wednesday there is a 20% chance of rain before noon before it turns partly sunny, according to the weather service.

Sunny and partly sunny skies are expected Thursday and Friday, respectively.

High temperatures will be in the low 50s on Wednesday and Thursday and just a few degrees higher on Friday, the weather service said.
