Scattered snow showers, possibly with rain, could reappear later Friday, after flurries flitted across Long Island early in the day, forecasters said.

“It’s going to be more clouds than sunshine today, with spotty rain or snow showers through this afternoon,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said.

Temperatures were expected to be in the low 40s for the afternoon before dropping below freezing overnight, forecasters said.

Daytime temperatures for the weekend will be in the low-40s, slightly below the normal of the mid-40 at this time of year, Hoffman said.

“Overall, not a bad weekend,” Hoffman said, adding that both Saturday and Sunday would have a mix of sun and clouds.

Snow could return late Sunday or early Monday, and there is a chance of rain and snow during the day with a high in the low 40s, the weather service said.

A coastal storm is passing well to the south, and the weather service said that for now it was forecasting “low chances of precipitation late Sunday night through Tuesday.”

There is no rain or snow in the midweek forecast, and the daytime highs will be in the lower 40s, the weather service said.
