Saturday on Long Island will be frigid, breezy but mostly dry after a night of freezing rain, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are expected to reach a high of just about 28 degrees with wind chill values between 10 and 15 degrees, according to the service’s website. The wind is expected to blow out of the northwest at 11 to 16 mph.
The forecast calls for a cloudy morning turning sunny Saturday, with a low of 10 degrees Saturday night.
Friday night the weather service put out a winter weather advisory for Suffolk County and parts of Connecticut, in effect until 3 a.m., warning of ice, slippery road conditions and black ice. Temperatures were expected to fall as low as 21 degrees.
The service urged residents to "slow down and use caution while traveling" and to prepare for possible power outages, though the website for PSEG Long Island showed few shortly after 7 p.m. last night.
Sunday will be sunny, with a high near 32 and a low near 25, according to the weather service. That forecast predicted a chance of rain and snow Monday and Tuesday, with conditions clearing but remaining chilly for the remainder of the workweek.
