Long Islanders with any weekend plans that require dry skies will want to look to Saturday, instead of Sunday, forecasters say.

Saturday is to feature dry but cloudy skies for much of the day, with highs expected to reach the mid-50s, the National Weather Service said.

Then, “the next low pressure system approaches from the west in the late afternoon,” the weather service said, bringing in “another round of rain that will continue into Sunday.”

Look for the bulk of the rain to fall from around 9 p.m. or so Saturday through early afternoon Sunday, said Carlie Buccola, weather service meteorologist in Upton. Breezy conditions and a period of moderate rain are expected, with precipitation tapering off by early evening, she said.

“Steady rain for Sunday before we dry out a bit next week,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Pat Cavlin.

The start of the work week will bring highs in the mid-50s and “sun on Monday,” Buccola said.
