Long Island weather: Clear, dry and cold until rain arrives Sunday
Leading up to Super Bowl Sunday, Saturday brings dry skies on Long Island, with increasing clouds and highs of around 30 degrees, feeling colder thanks to a wind chill, forecasters say.
Precipitation again enters the picture Sunday, which warms up to the mid-40s, with rain most likely to start in the early afternoon and last through early Monday morning, the National Weather Service said.
About a half an inch to three quarters of an inch were in the forecast as of late Friday afternoon, said Faye Morrone, weather service meteorologist in Upton. Conditions were not looking to be cold enough to support a spell of snow, which had earlier been expected, she said.
Monday brings decreasing clouds with temperatures heading up to the mid-30s, the weather service said.
The next chance for precipitation comes Tuesday into Wednesday, with potential for some snow, some rain and a combination of the two, with details yet to be determined.
