Long Island weather: Winter's not done, chilly temps and snow flurries ahead this week

The calendar says spring officially starts this week, but winter's not letting go anytime soon.

We can expect chilly winter temperatures to stick around this week, along with possible snow flurries Tuesday into Wednesday and again at the end of the workweek.

The National Weather Service also warned in a special statement Monday that the cold, windy conditions, along with extremely dry air, means the potential for brush fire is very high.

After another cold, breezy night in the low 20s Monday, Tuesday won't get out of the high 30s and wind chill values will make it feel between 15 and 25 degrees.

There is also a chance of snow flurries Tuesday night into Wednesday, turning to rain later Wednesday.

Highs will rise a bit into the 40s Wednesday and Thursday and there is a chance of rain Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, when we can expect another cool-down and another possibility of snow flurries.

While spring officially arrives on Saturday, we can look forward to some potential spring weather on Sunday — when the weather service said it will be sunny and in the high 40s.
