NWS: Warmer temps bring break from winter this week

Long Islanders can put away their winter parkas and pull out their rain jackets for Monday and Tuesday.
Above-average temperatures will come with “patchy drizzle and fog” on Monday and “some steadier rain” on Tuesday, said Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton.
Monday’s high temperature will hit the upper 40s — about 10 degrees above the average of 38 in Islip — as a storm system moves through the Great Lakes and puts “us on the warmer side of things,” Engle said. It will be “a dreary, cloudy day” though, Engle said.
Up to three-quarters of an inch of rain could fall Tuesday as winds gust up to 40 mph, Engle said. Temperatures will move into the low to mid-50s.
Temperatures will become “more seasonable” Wednesday as the mercury falls to around 40.
Thursday and Friday will have highs in the mid-30s.
