Sunday is expected to bring Long Island another day of pleasant summer weather, but with a touch of humidity that will turn into hotter weather the rest of the week, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service said that after some patchy fog before 7 a.m., Sunday will be sunny with a high temperature near 85 degrees and a gentle south wind of 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon. The average high temperature for the date in Islip is 82 degrees.

Sunday night it should be mostly clear with the temperature dropping to about 64 degrees.

"Tomorrow will probably feel a little bit more muggy," National Weather Service meteorologist John Cristantello said Saturday, although he added "most people will perceive it as tolerable."

Humidity will become "more noticeable on Monday" with rising temperatures, according to the meteorologist.

"And then Monday, it’ll be even warmer — middle to upper 80s and maybe starting to feel a little bit on the humid side," Cristantello said. He predicted "more people will probably start complaining" about the humidity on Monday.

The extended forecast shows highs nearing 90 through Thursday with rising humidity.
