The weekend forecast on Long Island calls for chilly temperatures and mostly dry conditions after a light bout of rain passes through the area on Saturday morning, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Jay Engle.

The high temperature on Saturday will be in the low 40s for most of the Island. The weather service forecasts light rain before 10 a.m. and then cloudy conditions throughout the afternoon, before temperatures dip into the high 20s on Saturday night.

"For today, just some very light drizzle in the morning, otherwise mostly cloudy the rest of today," Engle said on Saturday morning. "And then partly cloudy and seasonably cold tonight."

The Weather Service issued a special weather statement about possible light snow and slick conditions in parts of Long Island on Saturday morning, but, Engle said, as of 8 a.m., temperatures "have pretty much gotten above freezing, so we’re not really expecting that to be a problem going forward."

Conditions on Sunday are expected to be partly sunny with high temperatures being roughly identical to Saturday’s for most of the area. Temperatures are expected to dip into "the lower mid-20s" with "windchills in the mid-to-upper teens" on Sunday night, Engle said.

Monday will be mostly sunny, but "very cold" with temperatures in the low 30s during the day, he said.

Engle described the tail end of the weekend as "cold. Especially Sunday night through Monday night it’ll be cold."
