Long Island weather: Cool Monday night, then clear, sunny skies for rest of workweek

Monday marks the first full day of summer, which officially began with the summer solstice Sunday at 11:32 p.m.

But Monday night may feel a bit more like Fall, according to the National Weather Service

Showers and clouds dominate the weather Monday afternoon and evening with at least a high daytime temperature that was summerlike — 80 degrees in some areas.

But forecasters say when conditions clear Monday night, it will drop into the mid-50s in many areas of Long Island.

Then temperatures will bounce back to the upper 70s during the day through the end of the workweek. There is a 30% chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday, the weather service said.

There’s a small craft advisory in effect for all South Shore ocean waters, from Sandy Hook, N.J., to Moriches Inlet, through to 2 a.m. Tuesday. That advisory is in effect through 8 a.m. Tuesday from Moriches Inlet to Montauk.

Seas of 3-5 feet were expected along with wind gust up to 25 knots — or about 28 mph.
