Rain will continue into Monday evening before skies clear, but rain and snow showers are expected to return Tuesday. News12 meteorologist Rich Hoffman has the forecast.

After a briefly snowy start, just plain rain fell on Long Island Monday, with more in store Tuesday.

While areas just west and north of New York City saw a couple of inches of the white stuff, Long Island just got wet Monday, the National Weather Service said.

"Plain rain, briefly moderate to heavy, is forecast across Long Island," the weather service said in a Monday briefing.

Monday night's temperature will be about 30 degrees, although wind chills will make it feel like between 20 and 25, making for a glaze of ice over the remnants of snow on the ground from prior storms.

Tuesday, rain and snow showers return with a high near 40 degrees and wind chills again making the temperatures seem like between 20 and 30 degrees. Tuesday night will see a low of 32.

The sun will return in full force Wednesday as temperatures hit a balmy 45, making it the nicest day this week, before creeping down to 42 on Thursday and then the mid-30s on Friday, the weather service said. But the sun will be out for those two days.

The chance of rain creeps back in for the weekend, for Saturday and Sunday night, forecasters said.
