LI forecast: Another day of sunshine before rain arrives
Long Islanders should get another day of pleasant summer weather to finish off the weekend before the new workweek brings rain.
The National Weather Service on Saturday evening said Sunday will have patchy fog before 10 a.m. but then should be partly sunny with a high temperature near 81 degrees, which would exactly match the normal high for the date in Islip. A light southeast wind will increase to 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
Overnight Sunday into early Monday there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 a.m. The thermometer could dip to 69 degrees.
Monday is likely to bring showers and thunderstorms. The weather service put the chance of precipitation at 70%. The high temperature is expected to be near 79 degrees.
A weather service's discussion of the area's weather said a high-pressure front would remain over the Western Atlantic through Sunday before a frontal boundary approaches from the south Sunday night and then a warm front will slowly lift through the area Monday.
Tuesday will also bring a chance of rain, but the chance of precipitation is only 40%. The high temperature is expected to be about 81 degrees.
Then each day from Wednesday through Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny to full-on sunny. High temperatures those days will be in the mid 80s, according to the weather service.
