Sunday could include some wet weather on Long Island, but the upcoming workweek looks to be mostly sunny.
Sunday’s high temperature will be around 86 degrees and humidity will make it feel as hot as 96 on parts of the Island, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 a.m. and then again after 2 p.m.
The chance of precipitation for the day is listed at 40%. A southwest wind is expected to blow at 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday night, there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 p.m. with partly cloudy skies and a low temperature of about 70 degrees.
The weather service said there is a "marginal to slight risk" of severe weather from Sunday through Friday.
The severe weather could bring heavy rainfall, a risk of flooding, damaging rain and large hail, weather service meteorologist Bryan Ramsey told Newsday.
“[We are] not expecting widespread issues for flash flooding, but an isolated occurrence of that can’t be ruled out in any of the thunderstorms," Ramsey said. "The primary risk for that is going to be damaging winds with wind gusts in excess of 58 miles an hour."
Ramsey expects any flooding to be minor, such as "ponding on the roadways." The warning is "really just for the wind, maybe an isolated occurrence of large hail, but that will be about it," he said. There is no tornado risk, he added.
"More than likely, we’ll just get some nice moderate rainfall, and then the occasional heavy downpour may lead to minor nuisance flooding," he said Saturday. "That will be really through tomorrow."
Conditions are predicted to clear on Monday, the first day of the new workweek, when it’s expected to be sunny with a high in the mid-80s. More sunny skies are expected Tuesday when the thermometer is expected to top out at around 79 degrees.
"After that front passes, we’re drying out," he said, through at least the middle of the week.
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are expected to have mostly clear skies with high temperatures ranging from about 84 to about 88 degrees.
