Long Island will get another layer of snow this weekend, but warmer conditions through next week could melt away at least some of the snow stuck to the ground, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Goodman.

Saturday’s high temperature will hit 40 degrees for parts of Long Island, while the East End will have temperatures in the mid-30s. Conditions will be mostly sunny with a wind chill that will make it feel like the temperature is in the upper 20s.

"We’ve got some morning clouds, they’ll be getting out of here," Goodman said. “[It will be] cooler as you go east, warmer as you go west. [Temperatures around 35] will be out by Montauk and 40 would be in western Suffolk and Nassau."

Temperatures on Saturday night will dip into the mid-20s before reaching highs in the upper 30s on Sunday, when conditions will be partly sunny. Goodman told Newsday, "wind chill is really not going to come into play" on Sunday.

At least an inch snowfall is expected throughout Long Island on Sunday night, according to Goodman. He said the amount of snow forecast to stick on Sunday has increased.

"That has trended up from yesterday when we only really expected little or no accumulation, so we’re going to have to keep an eye on that," he told Newsday. "It’s possible the final numbers could be a little bit higher. I think we’ll have a better handle on it this afternoon."

The snowfall will stop by Monday, when temperatures are expected to rise to around 40 with wind chill remaining a nonfactor, Goodman said. Monday will begin mostly cloudy before conditions clear later in the day.

Temperatures are expected to remain above freezing from Tuesday until at least Wednesday, with daytime highs of 42 degrees both days. There is also a 50% chance of rain on Wednesday.
