Summer’s unofficial start this week begins with warm temperatures Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologist Joe Pollina said Tuesday will be mostly cloudy in the early morning and mostly sunny by mid-to-late morning. The high temperature will be in the low to mid-80s, though the shores and Twin Forks should be in the 70s and low 80s.

Wednesday is expected to be mostly sunny but cooler, with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s, said Pollina, who is based in Upton.

The normal high temperature for Tuesday in Islip is 71 degrees, he said.

“Winter seemed to have lingered on and everyone wants the warmer temperatures as soon as Memorial Day hits, and that’s not always the case,” he said.

Thursday is predicted to be cloudy with a chance of rain in the afternoon and highs in the upper 60s, forecasts show. Friday and the weekend will likely have highs in the 60s and 70s with chances of rain and thunderstorms.
